Dr. Shewmaker is the owner of Riverdale Veterinary Clinic. A native of Alva, Florida and the son of a mixed-animal practice veterinarian, Dr. Shewmaker started his practice in 2012. He is a member of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Shewmaker’s professional interests include general wellness, dentistry, and blood work.

After graduating from high school, Dr. Shewmaker attended the University of Florida, earning his Bachelor’s of Science in 2005. He earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2012.

“Growing up I always loved riding and helping my father work with horses,” says Dr. Shewmaker. “I really enjoy helping owners to getting their horses back in riding condition.” Dr. Shewmaker also references the famous Winston Churchill quote: “There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of the man.”

Riverdale Veterinary Clinic began as a farm-focused veterinary practice, Dr. Shewmaker quickly found there was considerable demand for a mobile veterinarian equipped to treat dogs and cats. “Our mobile service soon grew into a need for a brick and mortar clinic. I have since opened our new clinic in the Riverdale Shopping Center. We can now give the choice of in-home or in-office care for your pets.”

Dr. Shewmaker has one dog: Winnie, a dachshund mix. In his free time he enjoys traveling and snowboarding.
